Stand Up and Find the Object

If I am sitting on the couch and notice an object I thought was immediately closeby, seems now to have gone missing, I tell myself: "Stand up!"

My ego argues back: " ... no just lift up your butt, feel under the cushions, lift the pieces of paper on the table, feel around, don't disturb your own comfortable seating arrangement."

The longer I listen to my ego the more I delay finding the object.

Standing up, forces myself to a different perspective, access to logical sequencing and helpful memories. Using this approach, I invariably find the object much more quickly (whether indeed it IS between the pillows or actually much further away).

Getting off your ass/ not taking the bait of comforting your ego, helps you improve your act by doing what works.

Stand up and find what is important to you.

Hello out there. It's me here.

My on-going experiment in trading hours ("Hours Together") found yours truly living in a state of bliss this evening. Giving my time to a wonderful woman named Amy who is really enjoying our time together in the coaching mode is a gift to the both of us.

We sit and chat some and then I interrupt and ask her: Did you notice what just happened?

You smiled Amy. Can you feel that?

What's that you say? You're becoming conscious of how often you say what you
DON'T want.

You ask: Why is it so difficult to state things in the positive?

I introduce Amy to a noticing game. Whenever she thinks of speaks using the word "not or any version of "n't" (don't, can't, won't ..., ) to simply notice the "experience" of thinking and speaking (tense? energized?)

What happens Amy, when you change the sentence into the positive?

What you DO want?
What you CAN do?
What you WILL do?

Try this game for 15 minutes and see what happens.

I think everyone I've introduced this game to has been somewhat amazed and opened up to new helpful approaches in thinking and speaking.

Hours Together? Hours Alone?

As a Life and Business Coach, it is my practice to encourage each of us to stretch, to grow, to make bold assertions of the possible positive and to laugh in the face of Monkey Minds (including our own) telling us "it's no use - give up".

I am nearly always listening to others, relating to their suffering, sitting (or walking) with them and patiently allowing the invisible force of truth to set them free.I steer clear of negative judgments and most opinions I might have unless I am asked for my opinion. THEN when there IS a break in the negativity - a sigh, a laugh a peaceful wave of understanding THEN I might converse in a way that conveys to them:

You CAN do what you want to do. What ARE you going to do and ... by when? Push, Push, Push!

Now it's my turn.

I feel deeply discouraged from time to time that all my forays into internet communication and internet marketing (including THIS entry) produce merely a dribble and, are in real terms, counter productive - costing more in time, money and emotion than they are worth.

Coach. Take coaching. Your loved ones (some with MBA's) are asking you to please publish, riff, expound, put it out there.

OK. I will. (grunt push push push)

Last entry was about creating a Community called "Hours Together".

I'm putting 10 hours in this experimental bank right now.

And you?

Thanksgiving thoughts for tough times

Imagine a parallel local alternative to the stress of "dollar for dollar". Imagine when a person wants services they normally have to acquire with money is instead, available though the exchange of time; time say, in one hour blocks - "hour for hour".

We can help each other - the writer, the plumber, the doctor, the fix it person, the life and business coach, the house cleaner, the jeweler, the sailboat owner, the personal trainer, the tutor and everyone else can trade their time to help one another. The equal exchanges of time "hour for hour" can be facilitated with internet software keeping track of who has "hours credited" and who had "hours debited". Get eight people to start offering ten hours of time into the bank to start - post an invitations to others to offer ten hours as a way to join and then post the positive real life stories of exchange to the social network and voila - community exchanges - services and good feelings grow and grow. (And all tax free)

These kinds of happy exchanges are already happening for real here in Portland, Maine.

Since everyone pitches in, in good faith to create a sense of warmth and ownership, we can describe the community as "Hours Together".
